Hey I love this tracing of lineage, but I think you skipped one crucial link in between postpunk and the illbient era - namely the late 80s, very early 90s stuff that was happening in between the back rooms of acid house culture, experimental hip hop and the squat/traveller community... I've idly called it "drug dub" in the past - though that might be a bit flippant, it was a very LSD-drenched area...
There's a direct link - lots of the people making dubby music at this time (Coil, Richard H Kirk, Meat Beat Manifesto, GTO, Moody Boyz, Youth etc etc) came directly from industrial/postpunk...
