Going to check these artists out. Caught Bad Brains back in the day at the Whiskey in LA. LA crowds knew how good this band was and the band played many gigs around LA. Even KPPC Pasadena had them on their rotation. And Cecil Taylor? No brainer. Great Essay. Thanks.

I’d argue that African American Black People have MORE cause than most to feel anger…..but you know that. Great essay!

The Davis-Taylor antagonism is one of jazz's great unlived conversations. Miles dismissing Cecil as "just playing a lot of notes" while DeJohnette — sitting in the Davis quintet — was the one most electrified by what Taylor was doing. That split in reception, inside the same band, says a lot about where jazz was at in 1969.
