Thanks for this, great piece on an outstanding artist.

And re: Tony Oxley/Cecil Taylor – I'd really love a CD, but $170 for shipping a $10 CD to Germany is just a bit too hefty!

Not to worry - we have EU distribution now! You can get it from Grooves-Inc in Germany or Soundohm in Italy.

That's great news, Phil! Did a quick check. Grooves-Inc offers it for €30.59 ($36.23) but it is listed as "yet unreleased" (with a release date set to October 10). And Soundohm shows it as unavailable / out of stock.

Jazz Messengers in Spain has it (they're directly affiliated with my EU distributor).

Really interesting to see what halvorson said 10 years ago and what she says now. But you also make me think: how many other solo guitar records are there in jazz (or, for that matter, elsewhere)? Do you have any favorites?

Two that come to mind are Joe Morris’s Singularity and Bill Frisell’s Ghost Town, both released in 2000. How “jazz” they are is up to the listener. Also Azonic’s Halo, which is a solo album by Blind Idiot God guitarist Andy Hawkins, with production by Bill Laswell. It’s one of those records that has to be played at wall-cracking volume to be properly appreciated.

Thanks, don't know any of these. Grist for the future listening mill.
